Technical Rescue Spotlight: Stretcher Attendants

In this section we will look at a few diagrams of attachment methods for stretcher attendants, this will always be dependant on the task and casualty condition if it needs to be attended or not. Not will always be easier for edge transition if it must be hauled up or an edge but, in the methods, we will look at the attendant can remove themselves from the POC once safe.

Double Alpine Butterfly or Bowline

DAB with long or short tails to the length required, the stretcher bridle is attached to the DAB Loop. The casualty can be attached into the loop as well or can use an ASAP on the safety line giving the casualty 2 POC. The operative is on an ID and ASAP giving them availability to move around and safely come off the stretcher if required.

Rigging Plate

Rigging plate has twin lower or hauling lines attached, the stretcher Bridle is attached to each hole on the plate with the casualty attached via the orange single line giving the casualty 2 POC (stretcher classes as one).

The operative is on twin Grillons to what ever length they want them, into holes on the bottom row of the plate. The operative can move themselves around the stretcher.
